RICHARDSON (WILLIAM), printer in London, Castle Yard, Holborn, 1760. 1701–88, see Dictionary, 1668–1725. Nephew of Samuel Richardson, printer and novelist. For a time he was in partnership with S. Clarke, a Quaker, who retired from business about 1768. William Richardson took over his uncle's business in 1761, having previously acted as its overseer. In 1764, W. Richardson and S. Clarke were the printers of Observations on Marriage for Dodsley. [Straus]. In 1765 then names were still found in the Gazeleer and Daily Advertiser, August 26th. William Richardson died at Dagenham in Essex in May, 1788. [Nichols, VI. 620, VIII. 506.]
