- "Letters patent were granted 9 July last to Randolph Ashenhurst, Stephen Hales, ... Thomas Ashenhurst, farming to them the Royal Oak Lottery and all others from 17 April next for a certain time. No one but them or their licensees is to erect any lottery in this country. All Mayors, &c., to assist them in maintaining their right." -- Steele
