Note
Mostly in verse.

Includes original poems as well as translations of other authors.

Leaf A2 is blank.

Divided into 8 sections by half-titles or separately dated title pages. The known copies differ from each other as far as content and collation are concerned. For example, in the Huntington Library copy, the copy being catalogued here, the 4 unnumbered pages of poems signed A.A2 and found in the first section, "Poems", are inserted following p. 24 (B4) instead of following p. 16 (A8) as in most other copies. Also the Huntington copy has an additional 8 pages at end containing Epithalamia by other authors congratulating Stanley on his marriage, not found in other copies. Crump reports that the author's notes indicate that this was intended to be part of this work and that therefore the Huntington copy should probably be considered the ideal copy. Cf. G.M. Crump, Poems and translations of Thomas Stanley, p. xlvi-xlix.
