- Note
- With an engraved frontispiece portrait of author (plate).
Printer's name from Wing CD.
There are 21 portraits printed as part of the signatures. None of these portraits are assigned page numbers, making pagination irregular. The [4] pages following p. 32 are: blank; port.; p. 33; blank. The [5] pages following p. 62 are: port.; p. 163 (erroneous number); p. 64; blank; port.
The last page is misnumbered 128.
- Uncontrolled note
- Verify contents of p.l. Is frontis. port. actually part of quire A or should it be counted as a plate? The leaf following the t.p. is signed A4. A5-A7 contain introductory text. IU copy has a port. of Robert Earl of Essex on B1v(?)facing a leaf mis-signed "A2" (actually B2). This leaf with Essex' port. is lacking in CSmH copy and is replaced with a non-genuine blank leaf. In the reissue (Wing R1428), the port. of Essex is present and appears to be B1. It is possible that A4 is mis-signed and that quire A is a 6-leaf quire, with author's port. as A1. Until more light i shed, author's port. has been called a plate in the above pagination statement
